  • Not always a 7am to 3:30pm job – it is most days,  but there are time you will work plant shutdowns/outages  (day or night shift for G&R Safety Team Members)
  • Needs to be outgoing and not afraid to speak in front of groups
  • There is a need to be involved in industry safety groups that meet sometimes after hours
  • Expected to get pulled in many different directions but still can prioritize and maintain work load
  • Work with First Choice Personnel and after 90 days will be taken on by G&R and receive insurance (paid by G&R) and a possible raise, eligible for 401k after 1 year
  • This is a person who needs to come ready to work. Needs to be knowledgeable, pick up new information quickly and be ready to learn as they will be groomed to take over the Safety Director’s position in a few years.
  • Will not be a desk job. This person will be going out on job sites and paying attention to what is going on
  • No college degree needed, but it would be helpful
  • Strong computer skills a plus
  • It would be good for this person to have some supervisory experience and experience in OSHA and MSHA
  • Must be a self-starter and self-finisher and flexible with the day’s schedule as you never what you are going to have to switch to doing and when. This person needs to see things through to the end of completion

 

Weekly Tasks to include but not limited to:

  • Be onsite for start of shut downs
  • Coordinate projects and shutdowns with other safety team members
  • Review any upcoming shutdowns
  • Onsite audits
  • Inspect daily paperwork
  • Check in with supervisors and foreman to see if there are any issues that need to be addressed
  • Distribute payroll
  • Updates to supervisors
  • Review employee files,
  • Give training & receive training (attend training workshops and safety conferences).

PSM Specialist

Job Title:              PSM Specialist

Department:         Health and Safety

SUMMARY

Responsible for coordinating PSM activities, under the direction of the Manager of Process Safety and in collaboration with Site Managers, for all applicable Hunt Refining Company locations

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Demonstrated commitment to upholding the Hunt Core Values as well as Safety & PSM policies and procedures
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable OSHA/EPA regulations for PSM/RMP
  • Have a working knowledge of all Hunt Safety & PSM policies and procedures
  • Serve as the primary MOC (Management of Change) Coordinator for applicable Hunt locations, including facilitating appropriate risk assessments for MOC activities and reviewing MOCs/PSSRs (Pre Start Up Safety Reviews) to verify compliance with applicable policies and procedures
  • Serve as the primary Data Administrator for the Hunt MOC software, including managing user requests for assistance and conducting basic troubleshooting
  • Serve as Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) scribe for unit and project PHAs, and facilitate as needed with appropriate training
  • Assist with and lead auditing activities when required by Hunt Safety/PSM policies and procedures
  • Participate in Incident Investigations, and facilitate as needed with appropriate training
  • Willing to participate as needed in the Hunt Incident Command structure for emergency response
  • Provide back up to the Manager of Process Safety when required
  • Able to work in diverse groups and communicate effectively to personnel across the organization
  • Be a self-starter and be adept at challenging the organization for improvements without alienating individuals/groups
  • Must have the ability to manage multiple priorities, possess good time management skills
  • Some travel will be required to other Hunt locations
  • Other duties may be assigned

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Four-year bachelor’s degree preferred with three or more years’ experience at a PSM covered facility in an Operations, Technical, or Maintenance function or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Refinery/Petro-Chemical experience is preferred.  Proficient in use of personal computers and MS office software applications.  Experience with MS SharePoint is preferred.

General Summary

Southern Research is currently seeking a highly creative, assertive individual contributing problem solver as an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist.    This exciting and challenging opportunity will develop, implement, and monitor EHS programs in conjunction with SR’s operating divisions through a consultative approach.  The EHS Specialist will act as the SME, under the supervision of the EHS Manager, to ensure safety compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements for designated operations.  In collaboration with the EHS Manager, this proactive candidate will support hazardous material/waste programs, laboratory inspections, and administrative areas are compliant under local, state, and federal safety regulations.  The EHS Specialist will develop and conduct employee training, quality assurance, and emergency preparedness programs within the organization.

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Participates in team activities that assist in ensuring facility compliance with all local, state, and federal EHS regulatory requirements (e.g. OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc.).
  2. Performs regular facility safety inspections/ audits and provide recommendations of corrective action measures of facility issues.
  3. Serves on the Emergency Response Team, assists with development and implementation of employee training, quality assurance, and emergency preparedness programs.
  4. Provides and maintains open communication with technical staff, supervisors, and senior management in partnership of enhancing Safety programs and culture.

 

Position Specifics

  • Located in Birmingham, Alabama.
  • EHS SME to address site specific safety concerns.
  • Conduct and facilitate incident investigations, reports, and corrective actions.
  • Leads and participates in the SR Safety Committee to address, enhance, and encourage safety compliance.
  • Lead projects in the implementation of risk management programs through the use of internal and external resources to minimize safety risks.
  • Coordinates and monitors Worker’s Compensation claims to ensure employees receive appropriate care for work related injuries.
  • Review safety quality data through various data management and analysis methods to ensure accuracy of results.
  • Researches, compiles, analyzes, and presents safety data and trends to identify areas of opportunity; creates action plans for corrective actions.
  • Partners with Human Resources to ensure compliance of new hire orientation safety training.
  • Build relationships and trust while representing EHS management with department centers of influence and leaders to educate and influence adoption of safety initiatives.

 

 

Requirements/ Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Science, Health & Safety, or other related field of study.
  • 5+ years proven progressive hands-on safety experience in EHS.
  • Proven knowledge of regulatory EHS Compliance (e.g. OSHA, DOT, EPA, etc.)
  • RSO Certification or ability to obtain certification within first year.
  • Strong collaboration, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and ability to communicate with all levels of management.
  • Proven ability to lead diverse groups to work toward a common safety objective or project.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Board certification i.e.: CSP (Certified Safety Professional); CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist); CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager)
  • Prior experience performing risk assessments.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities in project management and ability to set objectives and deliver results.

DEFINITION

Performs advanced specialized work in the review, development, implementation and monitoring of a comprehensive health and safety program, to ensure the safety of Jackson Municipal Airport Authority employees, passengers and tenants, in line with JMAA Policies and associated legislation. Work areas include safety, accident prevention, loss control, risk management, Workers’ Compensation program administration, accident investigation, safety training, equipment training, development of safety and training materials and programs, procedures analysis, trend analysis, and equipment modification studies.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from Director of Human Resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Formulate, develop and monitor the implementation of health, and safety policies, systems, procedures and standards the organization in order to ensure effective risk management.

Maintain procedures for the reporting, investigation, recording and analysis of injury accidents, dangerous occurrences, property damage, near miss incidents and work related illnesses and injuries.

Determine health and safety goals and strategies for the company ensuring that they meet all fiscal, strategic and legislative requirements.

Develop and review policies and procedures ensuring that all health and safety measures are being taken.

Work proactively with managers and other key staff to establish and maintain a program of continuous improvement in the management of Health and Safety within their areas of responsibility, which includes conducting regular audits.

Develop and maintain an effective risk assessment strategy/culture and via auditing ensure all risk assessments are of suitable and sufficient standard.

Functions as a resource during emergency response situations, assists in the investigation and review of  all accidents/incidents, writes and submits associated reports and follows up on corrective actions identified to eliminate recurrences and mitigate safety risks.

Liaise with Occupational Health Service staff on health surveillance where a risk assessment has  identified a need, including carrying out stress risk assessments when required. Maintain appropriate records.

Monitor claim investigations and determine the validity of employee injury and review correctness of information.

Coordinate the activities of the JMAA safety committee by supporting accident investigations, completing reports and making recommendations to appropriate management for improvement.

Observe health, safety and environmental regulations, encourage safe working practices, and corrects obvious hazards immediately.

Other Important Duties and Responsibilities

Perform facility health, safety and environmental inspections.

Write, implement, and manage health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.

Administer and maintain compliance programs such as Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), Hazard Communication, Emergency Action Plan (EAP), Hearing Conservation, Hot Work, Respiratory Protection, Blood borne Pathogens, etc.

Perform related duties and additional support assignments as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

OSHA and all state and federal safety regulations.

Federal and state environmental and workplace safety standards. Principles of accident prevention, loss control and industrial hygiene. Workers’ Compensation law and case decisions relating to those laws. Long Term Disability guidelines.

Principles of effective training and program management.

General knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings and specifications, building materials, and various materials, workplace safety and other industry best practices and standards.

Ability to:

Detect and correct unsafe working conditions and practices in order to prevent accidents and injuries to employees.

Establish priorities for workload based upon factors which require immediate action, work objectives and work schedules, and knowledge of future needs and assessments, etc.

Assume appropriate responsibility and work independently in the absence of supervision.

Interface and communicate effectively with others by communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Read and interpret sketches, drawings, diagrams and blueprints.

Perform work under extreme temperatures and during adverse weather.

Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties which may include the following:

walking, crouching, crawling, climbing and lifting. operating motorized equipment and vehicles.

maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations.

Ability to work various hours as dictated by the demands of projects and repairs.

Learn and use various maintenance and project management software packages such as Airport Project Manager, MP2 and other relevant software packages as required.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products, and other standard business software.

Experience and Education Guidelines

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.

5+ years of professional-level health and safety experience.

Leadership capabilities and ability to develop and implement strategic goals and plans throughout the company.

License or Certificate

OSHA, workers’ compensation or any safety related certificate, license or registration is preferred. Possession of, or the ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Mississippi driver’s license.

Ability to acquire and maintain AOA driver’s license.

Ability to acquire and maintain unescorted access privileges to the Secure, SIDA and Sterile areas.

Must have 5+ years of plant EHS experience with an emphasis on Safety (position will handle 80% safety, 10% worker’s compensation and 10% environmental compliance).  The role will lead all EHS activities for (600) non-union employees located at a diverse industrial site (manufacturing and assembly operations). 

Responsible for all EHS, OSHA compliance/reporting, worker’s compensation, safety training, development/maintenance of safety and health policies and procedures, plant security plus additional corporate initiatives.  This is an individual contributor role with support from an hourly safety committee and corporate EHS.  This is a high performing and flagship plant for the company with high visibility throughout the organization.  The role will report into the Plant Human Resources Manager with a strong dotted line to the Corporate EHS Director.
