Regional Safety Manager (3/12/10)
The Regional Safety Manager is responsible for the Safety directive in the region. Assist the Risk Management Department with various tasks including assigning of workers comp codes, monitoring medical treatment and promoting a pro-active safety culture. Provide training to the field regarding risk management and safety issues. Conduct accident investigation and coordinate the medical treatment for injured associates and monitor modified duty assignments. Monitor the monthly management reports and report to the RVP/Branch Manager/Risk Director/Safety Director trends in the markets. Work closely with the Risk Management team to be proactive in claims management.
Role Priorities:
- Orientation and Training
- All new internal regional staff in regards to Safety and Risk Management functions and responsibilities
- Schedule and conduct safety training for client/associate(s) at client site
- Determination made from issues or needs found in client assessment based on hazard, incidents, client request or associate complaint.
- Conduct safety audits on all clients in region
- Set up scheduling for frequent or regular visits to all large volume clients or specific needs clients in region and share this information with the branch staff. Visit all clients in region at least quarterly or sooner if the following issues arise:
- Client non-compliance issue
- Workplace hazards and risk
- Safety program effectiveness
- Client requests for audits
- Branch requests for audits
- Incidents/Accident Investigations
- Audit findings and follow-up
- Client/Associate training
- Conducting accident investigations and medical monitoring for all accidents in assigned region
- Report to RVP/Branch Manager/Risk Manager/Lead Safety Manager progress of claims, audit findings, training needs, regional safety statistics and trends.
- Work closely with the Staffing Managers, Branch Managers, Risk Management and Clients regarding accident investigation.
- Report any trends to the Risk Manager to assist in establishing the proactive measures to stop further accidents from occurring.
- Act as a liaison between Injured Worker/Branch/Risk Management through the following methods:
- Monitor medical care and treatment
- Coordinate light duty
- Accompany Injured Worker to initial appointment (dependent upon severity and availability), or coordinate treatment via phone
- Communication with Risk Management/Branch Manager/ RVP in regards to open/closed claims including but not limited to
- Lag Time
- Claims cost
- Claim Type
- Claim Cause
- Claim Status
- Conduct on-going branch audits to determine failures in the recruitment process that might lead to a safety hazard
- Pro-Active – Spot checks of active employee files to determine red flags
- Reactive – Audit of injured workers file to determine failures, if any, that contributed to the accident
- Assist Branches with assignment of work comp codes and audit existing codes for accuracy
- Regional Safety Manager is responsible for making sure that every branch in the their assigned region meets State and Federal OSHA requirements as it relates to procedures, 300 logs, programs, postings and etc.
- Attendance in mandatory weekly regional conference calls and department weekly Monday Conference call
- Communication with region during calls about workplace hazards, regional statistics, audit results or needs, accidents over the previous week, open claims, light duty status’, and branch needs.
- Create a Pro-Active Safety Culture in Region
- Regular communication through literature and paycheck stuffers about hot item safety topics can be used to create a buzz in the region to distribute among Branch and Associate.

Environmental Health and Safety Manager (1/26/10)
This position will be responsible over all EHS practices, policies, and activities at SurModics Pharmaceuticals and for ensuring compliance to all relevant local, state, and federal regulations including OSHA, EPA, DEA, and DOT. These activities will, in part, involve writing policies and practices to ensure regulatory compliance, performing and coordinating all employee training programs, hands-on involvement in waste management and in implementing safety programs and training. Requirements include a BS/MS in related technical area plus at least 5 years industrial EHS experience in chemical research and/or manufacturing facilities, demonstrated abilities in establishing safety practices and policies, experience in employee training, and thorough knowledge of relevant OSHA, EPA, ADEM, DEA, and DOT regulations. Preferred candidates will have certifications in related specialties (CHMM, CIH, CSP, etc). Safety Manager (1/6/10)
Job Purpose: Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of safety and security programs for assigned Distribution Center. Oversees training and certification of associates and ensures associates are provided with ongoing skills development and coaching to improve their secure and safe work habits. Develops the operating plan and budget for the Safety and Security Department and is accountable for achieving overall results that are consistent with individual and company performance goals.
Initial Minimum Qualifications:
- 4-Year College degree and/or a minimum of eight years work experience in retail operations, distribution, transportation, logistics and/or supply chain, security and safety management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Extensive experience and skill in retail distribution processes, logistics, supply chain management, warehouse operations, transportation, security and safety management.

Primary (Essential) Job Functions:
